With the April 5th tax deadline fast approaching, many buyers are looking for Section 23 homes with tax breaks. A development of apartments and penthouses qualifying for the tax incentives is currently being built along the coast at Youghal, Co Cork. The Strand Palace scheme will have 52 two-bedroom apartments and 12 three-bedroom units in a four-storey block over ground level car-parking. The original Strand Palace ballroom is being refurbished and converted into nine two-bedroom apartments as well as a ground floor restaurant opening on to the waterfront.

The first phase of the scheme sold quickly last year and now joint agents, Hooke & MacDonald of Dublin and Hennessy Auctioneers of Youghal, are taking bookings for the next tranche of homes. Prices are mainly from £132,027 to £167,582 and include furniture. Three-bedroom units cost from £147,654 to £212,542. Capital allowances on the homes allow for tax relief against all income, including PAYE.
