Just in case anyone thinks that the august Royal Hibernian Academy's 183th annual exhibition is all about artists, academy president
Des McMahon wants it to be known that some outstanding work by architects is sprinkled among the paintings and sculpture.

McMahon, chiefly known for designing Croke Park, points to Box Architecture’s walk-in structure simulating how much the sun governs design and how Solearth’s dissolving wax forms (pictured right) – heated by solar panels – prompts a re-think of the modernist aesthetic.

Also represented are award-winning architects de Blacam and Meagher, McCullough Mulvin and Clancy Moore (both showing models), and elegant architectural photography, by Hélène Binet, of Heneghan Peng’s visitors’ centre at the Giant’s Causeway.

The architectural award went to Caroline O’Donnell for Party Wall, a summer pavilion in Long Island for New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

The exhibition runs until August 17th at the RHA Gallery, Ely Place, Dublin 2.
