Beatles fans will still need deep pockets if they want to pick up the latest piece of Fab Four memorabilia at a discount. John Lennon’s former mansion in Weybridge, Surrey, where he lived with his first wife Cynthia, has just posted a €1.5 million price drop from €15 million to £13.75 million.
It’s certainly a good deal more than the legendary singer/songwriter paid when he bought the 1,100 sq m (11,840sq ft) pad, named Kenwood, for £20,000 in 1964. Located just 24 miles from central London, Lennon only lived there for four years, preferring to return eventually to the bright lights of the city. However, he is said to have invested a further €40,000 in the property while he was in situ.
The property has six bedrooms, six bathrooms, six reception rooms, and an indoor pool complex, and it was here that Lennon wrote some of the band's best known work, including I Feel Fine, Ticket to Ride, Norwegian Wood, I Am the Walrus, and much of the Sgt Pepper album.
If the selling agent, Knight Frank, manages to sell it at the new price, it wouldn’t be a bad return on a €20,000 investment 50 years ago.
