There is a new kind of industrial revolution taking place in London – loft apartments for sale within industrial factories that have been converted, but only just. The finishing touches are for you to add.

These so-called shells of buildings cost upwards of £2 million (€2.4 million) – and that's before you fork out for a stick of designer
furniture.

Verve Properties’ latest project is the former Sunlight Laundry in the Loud and Western Building in Sands End, Fulham.

The Edwardian former factory has been turned into enormous shells, ranging in size from 215sq m to 606sq m (2,323sq ft to 6,525sq ft) with ceiling heights of up to 5m (16.5ft).

The dirty external works, including new roofs, windows and doors, have been carried out. Terraces have been created and basic services – gas, electricity, water, cable connections – are in situ.

What you get for your money is a blank canvas, framed by original industrial architecture. Prices start from a cool £2 million through agents Savills.

Or you could take to the waters with a barge and mooring at Oyster Pier in Battersea. Again the French and Dutch-build boats will be sold as an empty shell that you can decorate as you please. Savills is guiding a price of £1.5 million for a VegaIV, a 40 metres long craft that comes with 2,300 sq ft of living space with classic hardwood floors, three cabins, 730 sq ft of useable outdoor space and a private mooring.
