Trending: Malthouse Design Centre

The Malthouse Design Centre, a creative hub that launched several new Irish designers’ careers, is shutting its doors. Launched by Arthur Duff of Duff-Tisdall, the distillery building in which it is housed is being put up for sale today from 10am. The centre is selling off a selection of one-off pieces including lighting, occasional furniture, storage, tables and decorative pieces. Pictured is the Octo light, 54cm by 68cm, designed by Finnish lighting designer Seppo Koho using laminated birch. The bulb is contained in the closed top section creating a light-filled globe. It has a long flex, making is suitable for larger rooms or stairwells. Normally €693 it is being sold for €293. Successful “graduates” of the Malthouse Design Centre include textile designer Jennifer Slattery, who has just opened her namesake shop next door to fellow graduate, feltmaster Jamie Lewis, at The Old Butcher Studios, 72-74 Benburb Street, Dublin 7. The sale runs daily to 5pm and ends Sunday, October 5th.
