Shoparound: Top Drawer in Stillorgan is going contemporary with some shirt-inspired designs.
In a "huge departure" from the shop's normal product, it is now stocking a collection of contemporary bedlinen aimed at the contemporary home and apartment, says Karen Turner of Top Drawer.
Inspired by the fabrics of men's shirts, the collection includes tartans, pinstripes and checks. Only in stock for three weeks, the range is being snapped up and is particularly popular among young couples and men, says Karen.
The Red Tartan range - with a big bold red and blue check matched with pinstripe sheets - is bold and bright but not for the faint-hearted.
Blue Leighton is more discreet, with a grey, navy and blue check. We like the subtle beige, taupe and grey pinstripe, called Infinity Biscuit. It is also available in blues.
Prices start at €65 for a single duvet in the tartan range going up to €125 for a super king in the same range. Pillows cost between €14 and €25.
Top Drawer also has a range of contemporary bedroom furniture to complement the collection. Check out the Japanese-style bed with sunken mattress, high headboard and a ledge surrounding the entire bed. Made from acia hardwood from the Middle East, which has a lovely warm knotted effect, the 5ft bed costs €895. Five-foot leather sleigh beds cost around €2,500.
The classic look in bedlinen is still going strong and Top Drawer has a great range of furniture to accompany it, says Karen.
Bedroom ranges start at €1,500 for a bed, two lockers and a chest of drawers in a warm reclaimed pine. New to the shop is a very fancy French painted sleigh bed priced at €895. At the top end expect to pay from €11,000 for a Frank Hudson bed setting (bed, lockers and chest of drawers) of hand-made and hand-polished mahogany.
The shop has also branched into accessories, and now stocks a selection of lamps, mirrors and original artwork from Irish .
