CHILDREN have been fishing for crabs off the pier in Cahore, Co Wexford, for generations but the village has managed to escape the eye of developers over the years.

The village - no more than a pub, the pier and a clutch of houses - has escaped the fate of other Wexford locations such as Courtown or Ballymoney, possibly because it's just a little off the beaten track, and there isn't a lot to do when you get there.

Now a small development of houses is being pitched at Dublin buyers as either holiday or permanent homes. Castleview will eventually have 26 houses, built on a site adjacent to Cahore Castle, a Victorian house that was once a hotel but has lain empty for several years. Developer Michael Shortt, who plans to redevelop the castle, has built a showhouse on the beachside site which is open for viewing this weekend.

The plan is for large, detached four-bedroom houses ranging in price from €339,000 to €465,000s for larger homes with sea views. Joint agents are Owen Reilly and Warren Estates.
