An Bord Pleanála has granted developer Bryan Cullen planning permission to build 42 apartments and six houses on a 0.5-hectare site at Gilford Road, Sandymount, Dublin 4.
The scheme will comprise two-, three- and four-storey apartment blocks and a terrace of townhouses.
The site, which is bordered by Sandymount Castle Drive and Gilford Road, was purchased by the developer in 2005 from the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Africa for over €16 million.
Six third-party appeals were submitted to An Bord Pleanála by local residents. Among their concerns was that the site is too small and the development will adversely affect residential amenity due to the scale of development and by overlooking, loss of daylight and traffic problems.
Last year the council refused permission for a 57-unit scheme on the same site.
