Redevco, the property arm of the C&A clothing company, has announced a £6 million sterling redevelopment of the C&A store in the centre of Belfast's prime Donegall Place retail area. The new store will comprise four floors of retail space, including new units, with major frontage on to Donegall Place. The development consists of 65,000 sq ft of retail space. C&A will be retaining 50,000 sq ft for its clothing store and the remainder will be let out in separate units. Work is to begin next month and during construction, C&A will be relocated temporarily to the What Every One Wants unit in Ann Street, until the new store opens in August 2001.

Colin Mathewson, of Hamilton Osborne King in Belfast, said the investment reflects the retail strength of Belfast city centre. "C&A is a major European retail business and it's great to see the company's further commitment to and investment in Belfast," he said. Redevco is a European-based property business owned by the Brenninkmeijer family, who also own C&A. The company has one outlet in the Republic, in Liffey Valley shopping centre at Quarryvale, west Dublin.
