MKN Properties whose shareholders include the builder Sean McKeown, have received planning permission from An Bord Pleanβla for the redevelopment of the landmark Sutton Castle Hotel in north County Dublin.

The decision clears the way for the former home of John Jameson, of whiskey fame, to be converted into 21 apartments. Envisaged are 18 two-bedroom apartments and a further three with three bedrooms. Internal and external modifications are to be made to Sutton House which is a protected structure, including the removal of modern extension buildings located to the rear.

It will also involve converting the existing bar and function rooms located to the north of Sutton House to a two-storey above garden-level block of 13 apartments.

The existing single-storey bar building linking to Sutton House will also be demolished and replaced with a new two-storey structure comprising four two-bedroom apartments;

The hotel's function room is to be converted into three three-bedroom duplex apartments, while the removal of the kitchen/storage area will allow for the provision of three two-bedroom apartments.

The total gross floor area of the buildings will increase by 1,015 sq metres to 3,527 sq metres. 58 surface car-parking spaces are to be added.
