A Catholic Church in Co Donegal has been voted the Irish Building of the 20th Century in a public competition organised by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI). Over 800 entries were received and the church, St Aongus, in Burt, Co Donegal, was the clear winner. It was designed by Liam McCormick and FM Corr in the mid-1960s. Second place went to Dublin's Busarus, which has always been one of those buildings that people seem either to love or hate. It was designed in the 1950s by Michael Scott and third place went to the Carrolls Factory in Dundalk designed by Scott Tallon Walker in the late 1960s. So it seems that despite the 1990s epidemic of crane-filled skies and the rash of new buildings, none of them seems to have struck a chord with the public.
