An updated classic 1930s semi-detached house in Rathmines is to be auctioned by Jackson Stops on 24th May with a guide price of £630,000 (€800,000).

Number 3 Cowper Drive is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac close to both Dartry and Ranelagh, with a good-sized back garden, garage and off-street parking. It was built in 1935 and has been extensively renovated for the present owner by architect Roisin McCann. She has kept the spirit of the 1930s through following the style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the famous Scottish architect and furniture designer. The house is a basic three-bedroomed semi with a lovely entrance - a square hall with shaded and polished floorboards. Off this is the diningroom on the right, which opens through double doors into a drawingroom stretching along the back of the house. Here there are doors out into the sunny and well laid out back garden.

Both of these rooms have new marble fireplaces with square motifs, which are repeated on the cupboards in the alcoves. Large mirrors above the fireplaces increase the light and the apparent size of the rooms.

There are polished boards in both these rooms and a bow-fronted bay window in the diningroom. Next door is a study also looking out on the back garden.

Kitchen fittings are contemporary, with Shaker-style cherrywood cupboards and simple brushed steel handles, white tiled splashbacks and a breakfast counter. There is room for a table and chairs and extra light comes from electronic Velux windows. Also off the hall is a small cloakroom with sink and toilet and polished floor.

The box stair is carpeted in rich blue and is dominated by the original leaded landing window. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and bathroom. The main bedroom has an en suite which also incorporates a dressingroom.

This gives the bedroom an airy feel which is complemented by mirrored alcoves on either side of the bed and a large bay window. The en suite has soft aqua mosaic tiling and a Jacuzzi bath. A further two bedrooms, while not large are airy and light. The family bathroom is tiled in blue and white. All the windows in the house have been replaced with double-glazed wooden ones.

Both back and front gardens have been well planted and there is a large paved patio area.
