Value for money is attracting commuters prepared to tackle the 45 mile drive to Dublin. Alternatively, they can catch a train from Rathdrum or Arklow, eight miles equidistant from Aughrim.

Joint agents Sherry FitzGerald Myles Doyle and Sherry FitzGerald New Homes are launching show units this weekend at Rathmore, a small development of three and four-bedroom bungalows a short walk from the village.

Likely buyers will come from a wide spectrum, from families and young couples to downsizers looking for single-level accommodation.

Prices start at €219,000 for 107 sq m (1,150 sq ft) three-bedroom bungalows. There are 15 three-beds for sale, so these are in the majority. Four-bedroom dormer bungalows of 123 sq m (1,324 sq ft) cost from €239,000 and 124 sq m (1,334 sq ft) four-bedroom bungalows start at €259,000.

The Rathmore site is on an elevated area 100 yards from the main street, just past the new angling lake. There is a good standard of finish, with high levels of insulation and a low-maintenance exterior.

Wardrobes are fitted in two of the bedrooms, the main bedrooms are en suite and fireplaces are standard in all house-types.

Three-bedroom bungalows have a bay-windowed sittingroom to the front, linking with an open-plan dining kitchen. The bedrooms and family bathroom are to the right off the hall, with the main room en suite. In the four-bedroom dormer bungalows, the kitchen/diningroom spans the rear of the house, with two sets of doors to the garden.

A bedroom/study is on the ground floor and three further bedrooms and take up the top floor.

The largest four-bedroom bungalow is L-shaped, with living accommodation at one end of the house and the four bedrooms off the hall to the right.

Units in this phase will be ready to move into from Christmas onwards, with the majority available by spring 2004.

Viewing is on Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
