Apartments in a "condo conversion" in the River North area of Chicago are amongst properties in Chicago, Las Vegas and Orlando which will be offered to Irish investors this weekend at a property show in the Westbury Hotel, Dublin 2.

The condominiums - apartments converted from rental units - in Ontario Place will cost from €237,500 and are being sold by American Invsco, a Chicago-based developer. The ready-to-go development has balconies, 24-hour door staff, a swimming pool and health club. Donald Trump's Trump International development is being built close to Ontario Place, according to the agent.

A plan by Irish-owned Fitzpatrick Hotels to develop condominiums in its Chicago hotel had to be abandoned late last year when only half the 120 investors needed were found; booking deposits were returned, and the hotel has now been sold to a US hotel group.

"Condo conversions" are popular with US real estate companies because of the cost of maintaining buildings according to Nicole Pavisic of American Invsco. The company came to the Irish market for the first time in May last year, when it sold apartments in Las Vegas to investors here.
