This is an oddly self-conscious book that features country houses that have been decorated in a style that mixes urban chic with some rustic elements. Starting from the attitude that it is no longer an offence for country dwellers "to be found not in possession of an Aga or a dresser full of naive rustic pottery" she shows a selection of wonderfully welcoming country houses from as far away as South Africa. The text for the most part borders on the downright precious - "deep within each one of us lies the spirit of a primitive hut dweller" - but the photographs are beautiful, as is the quality of the book's production.
