Because his shower space is quite open, the concrete floor is sloped so water flows to the drain underneath the showerhead. The tiles Jason used (non-slip grey porcelain from Lomac Tiles) are quite large and proved tricky to lay on a sloped floor - in hindsight, he says, small tiles such as mosaic would have been easier. Thanks to a good tiler - Terry Lawton, 087-2848870 - they did work.

Underfloor heating is also a must: water splashes beyond the toughened glass panels but, when the floor is warm, it dries almost instantly and, because the room is all one tiled space, the underfloor heating runs right into the shower so your feet are warm beneath the water.

The power shower is by Grohe at Davies Bathrooms in Harmonstown and has body jets and other features. The fittings are concealed behind the wall to keep a clean look. Jason recommends plumber Niall O'Dwyer (086-8237435) for this kind of work. The sink counter top is Portuguese marble from Marble & Granite in Coolock. The total cost from scratch of everything you see here - fittings, tiles, labour and so on - was about €8,000.
