ShopFront: The star attraction of the Spring House and Garden Show which opens on Saturday, March 13th, at the RDS will be the Eco-house, designed by architect John Goulding and Duncan Stewart.
Boring, some might think. But while the house is built using as many eco-friendly tricks as possible, it promises to be better finished than other similar showcases, with practical affordable ideas from eco-heating and insulating methods to good old garden compost.
Swedish furniture specialists 2Cool Design from Temple Bar are doing the interior.
The architects propose that the house would adapt to its owner's life cycle: it is built as a starter home, then two extra rooms can be created as kids arrive.
Finally, when they grow up and eventually jump over the wall, the house can be converted to an apartment and smaller house.
The Eco-house is sponsored by Sherry FitzGerald and the exhibition, which includes exhibits from gardener Gerry Daly, the Crafts Council of Ireland and B&Q, - is sponsored by myhome.ie.
