Louth-based company Bushfield Interiors is celebrating 25 years in the business with the opening of a new 650sq m (7,000sq ft) showroom in Dunleer.
The company - which sells luxurious furniture, handmade curtains, upholstery and accessories from a showroom in Dunleer Main Street - will open a second showroom on the Dundalk side of Dunleer this autumn.
A fresh take on the classic look is what people want, says David Murtagh of Bushfield, and clients are willing to spend what it takes. "I'm fascinated by the number of people who are buying good quality furniture and accessories with the view of not doing it twice," he says.
Big for top-end clients looking for something different is commissioned fabric from the UK-based Gainsborough Silk Weaving Co. Its collection dates back over 140 years and the firm made fabrics for the Titanic. Specialising in damasks and embroidered fabrics, it also offers a bespoke service. Custom-made fabrics cost from €150-€500 per sq m and run-in time is about 10 weeks, says David.
Fabrics from Italian company Colony are also popular, says David. One embroidered weave from the company made in golds and creams using a mix of silk and yarn is made on a machine that only produces 11 metres a day, he says. Prices for Colony fabrics are €350-€550 per sq m.
Lower down the scale is French firm Casamance, which experiments by mixing different fibres to get unusual textures. Check out its silk-like fabric which looks and feels like silk at a fraction of the usual cost (€50-€80 per sq m instead of €200 per sq m).
Bushfield also stocks fabrics from other fabric houses, including Zoffany, Resina and Nobilis. Aside from a fantastic array of fabrics, Bushfield Interiors carries a great range of furniture from the likes of Italian company Rho that makes high quality reproduction French empire and classic English furniture. It also stocks UK company Kennedy, which makes traditional furniture with a modern slant.
