ANYONE interested in starting an art collection or just considering buying a painting for the first time should consider attending a free seminar State of the Art: Irish Art in the last 30 Yearson Sunday, January 30th.
The event at the D4Berkeley Hotel in Ballsbridge is being arranged by de Veres Art Auctions, one of Ireland’s leading fine art auction houses, which specialises in the sale of 19th and 20th century Irish paintings.
Proceedings get underway at 11am with an art valuation where people can bring along paintings and have them valued. A short series of talks begins at noon. Robert O'Byrne, author of Dictionary of Living Irish Artists, will speak about the development of Irish art over the last 30 years.
John de Vere White of de Veres will share his views on the market and offer guidance and tips to potential buyers and address the do’s and don’ts when starting an art collection. Over the years he has witnessed numerous market upheavals and seen many artists scale great heights in auction room fever. “We are now going through different times and while there is a lack of supply of real quality items, there are buyers waiting to pounce if the right thing appears,” he said.
There is no charge to attend the seminar but places are limited. To reserve, contact Aisling Foran at de Veres on (01) 6768300. – MP
