ONE man’s recession is another man’s opportunity. There may be bargains to be had at auctions as some of the largesse purchased during the boom years is now being sold.
Jewellery auctioneer John Weldon has put an estimate of €2,500-€3,500 on an 18ct gold Breitling Navitimer wristwatch (number 23 of a limited edition of 100) with papers that show that it was purchased in Liffey Valley shopping centre for €13,000. A three-stone diamond ring, set in platinum, accompanied by papers from Tiffany in New York showing an insurance value of $16,500 (€11,733), is estimated at €4,000-€5,000.
Both are included in a Weldons sale at 2pm on Tuesday, March 22nd, in Cow’s Lane, Temple Bar, Dublin 2.
It features diamond jewellery, gold and various collectibles.
Meanwhile, organisers of this weekend's National Antique, Art and Collectibles Fair in Limerick say bargains aplenty are on offer from the 70 dealers attending the event in the South Court Hotel today and tomorrow. – MP
