Auction results:

Saturday and Sunday (October 29th and 30th) Damien Matthews Auctioneers auction of the contents of Kilternan Lodge, Co Dublin – former home of the late Don Carroll, chairman of PJ Carroll & Co, the tobacco manufacturers, and a governor of the Bank of Ireland – 80 per cent of the 1,250 lots sold. A pair of Regency Coadestone garden pedestals with urns sold for €5,600 – well above the estimate (€2,500-€3,500). A portrait of Mr Carroll smoking a cigarette by the artist Derek Hill – that had been estimated at €1,000-€1,500 – was withdrawn by the family before the sale.

Tuesday (November 8th) John Weldon Auctioneers, Cow's Lane, Temple Bar, Dublin 8. Auction of jewellery, silver and gold coins at 2pm with 550 lots, including 105 lots from Kearns Pawnbrokers, on Queen Street, Dublin. Viewing begins Saturday (November 5) at noon. Sample lots include a Sri Lankan sapphire and diamond cluster ring set in 14kt gold (sapphire approximately 17cts and 16 diamonds totalling approximately 3.50cts) with an insurance valuation of €33,000 (€9,000-€12,000).

Thursday (November 10th) Sotheby's, London. Auction of art from the private collection of the late David Bowie including Sleep Sound by Jack B Yeats (£120,000-£180,000); and, a watercolour titled James Joyce by Louis le Brocquy, (£10,000-£15,000).
