A collection of unusual silver miniatures, to be sold individually, goes on view from noon today at John Weldon Auctioneers in Cow's Lane Temple Bar, Dublin. The miniatures, each about 10cm high, include figures of a horse, a hare, several dogs, a piano, a bicycle, a sailing boat and a man fishing. They have various estimates, from €20 to €300. The top lot is an Irish silver beer jug, made by John Hamilton circa 1735, estimated at €5,000-€7,000. A Limerick silver tablespoon, made by Maurice Fitzgerald circa 1780, is €2,000-€3,000.
Gold coins continue to be sought after by collectors. There’s a large selection in the sale including a boxed set of 12 half sovereigns, all dated 1915, guiding €1,200-€1,800. A set of 10 sovereigns, with various dates between 1957 and 1968, in a fitted case is €2,000-€3,000. The auction starts at 2pm on Tuesday, February 25th.
