Love is allegedly in the air today, St Valentine's Day, but there's little affection on display in Graham Knuttel's painting, incongruously titled Happy Valentine.
The oil- on- canvas, which measures 60 x 50cm (23 x 20 in), with an estimate of €1,750- €2,500, is in the current auction at west Cork auctioneers Morgan O’Driscoll.
The auction is online only and bids can be submitted anytime via the website morganodriscoll.com until the evening of Monday, February 23rd.
Other notable lots include West Cork Landscape (watercolour) by William Crozier (€3,000-€5,000) and The Red Car (oil-on-card) by Basil Blackshaw (€2,000-€3,000).
In all, the auction features 300 paintings – most with estimates well below €1,000 and firmly in the “affordable art” category. Viewing is online but also at the sale room at Ilen Street, Skibbereen, Co Cork, from next Thursday.
