Monkstown - €2.8m:With 320sq m (3,450sq ft) of living space, period details intact and an 80ft back garden, Winton Lodge could make a fine family home near Monkstown village.

There are plenty of large family homes for sale in Monkstown at present but most have been refurbished to a high degree and are priced accordingly.

For those who want to take on a project, there is Winton Lodge, a former Church of Ireland rectory at 62 Monkstown Road that has plenty of potential.

It is large and detached, with 320sq m (3,450sq ft) of living space, all of it in need of "updating and modernisation", according to Lisney. They expect it to make around €2.8 million at auction on March 12th.

The pink-painted two-storey over basement house is close to the village centre and has plenty of off-street car-parking in front. Behind the house is a walled garden almost 80ft long.

Inside it has a traditional layout with a grand reception room on either side of the hallway, both with ornate ceiling cornices.

At the back of the house is a workaday kitchen though new owners will probably decide to move the kitchen downstairs, where there is a series of rooms including a large sittingroom with French doors to the garden.

There are four large bedrooms, arranged on two levels and, as with many houses of this era, they share a bathroom that is right at the top of the house.
