An en suite bathroom at Eagle Lodge has a very rare item - an intact Victorian enamelled rain bath complete with its original showerpiece.

Bought in Architectural Classics (1850 246001) some years ago, an all bells and whistles antique bath like this will cost around €22,000.

To buy a free-standing round or square shower piece separately will cost around €15,000, if you can find one.

An antique roll-top bath with external taps and waste would be about €3,000.

When you have an old bath taking centre stage, it helps if the rest of the bathroom is in keeping. This one was refurbished by Architectural Construction (01-278 8278)and Bespoke Carpentry (01-294 6803) and the panelling gives a heritage feel to the room. It costs around €500-€1,000 a sq m depending on the complexity of the job.

This was painted in Colortrend Antique Pine by Heritage Decorating (051 646099).

The owner couldn't find suitable wallpaper and decided to use some old cotton Parisian themed fabric she found in an antique shop. Bespoke Carpentry stretched the fabric onto panels and fitted it between the columns. To do a room of a similar size will cost around €10,000.

The owner cut circles out of the wall fabric, mounted them on a black background and put them in gilt reproduction frames, which adds opulence and symmetry to the room.

If it's the stately home look you're after nothing achieves it like a four-poster bed. This one was bought in Oman Antiques (01-616 8991) some years ago. Not as olde worlde as it looks, there's actually some hidden technology - two remote-control, adjustable Jensen beds pushed together - which meant the bed frame had to be lengthened and made higher by Bespoke Carpentry (01-294 6803).

Flanagans, in Donegal and Dublin, sell antique four-poster beds from €5,000 and reproductions from €2,500 (01-288 0218).

The room is full of interesting period furniture which mostly came from antique shops in the city centre and Francis Street.

The gilt seats at the end of the bed, were upholstered by Chi Furniture Design (01-4601960) and covered in Andrew Martin fabric. The antique pelmet came from an old country house and was regilded. The owner based the green and taupe colour scheme around the tapestry behind the bed with touches of gilt to give the room a lift.

Every self-respecting four poster has to have a valance. This one is from Yves Delorme at Brown Thomas (01-605 6666).
