Glamour and attention to detail are back on the agenda with homeowners desperately seeking some quirky conversation pieces for their homes.
New arrivals to contemporary furniture store Bellissima in Bandon, Co Cork are a case in point. The 464sq m (5,000sq ft) shop and showrooms has added Italian company, Cierre, and Dutch furniture makers, Schuitema, to its list of suppliers, which also includes Porada, Flos, Giorgetti, John Sankey and Gloster.
Schuitema's pieces have a strong arts and craft edge, while the understated luxury of Cierre's leather furniture is a far cry from austere minimalism. While clean lines are still in, taupe leather is preferred over creams and dark browns and a stripped zebrano wenge veneer is now more popular than the solid dark brown look, says Sarah McCarthy from Bellissima.
"We find that people are moving away from the minimalist look and moving towards more detail and an overall more glamorous look."
Italian company Porada certainly seems to have this sleek but interesting look down.
We love its fantastic range of small circular mirrors sold in clusters of three, which can be used to create an interesting feature wall in a living area. Priced at €460, the three mirrors are of varying diameter and will create a quirky and magical effect on any wall. Buy 39 and you create a work of art for your livingroom. Buy six with coat hooks attached and you have an unusual alternative to the coat stand. It is available in a wenge stain or oak grey stain.
For a more textured look check out Porada's solid wenge wood with leather weave top coffee table. Price €1,580 for a small square table and €2,120 for a larger rectangle table. It's available in a natural oak or oak grey stained finish also.
For some sheer glamour have a peek at Italian company Valdichienti's high-backed and high-armed three-seater Luxor leather sofa.
Priced at €6,155, it has a seriously 1970s LA casino feel about it. Available in a range of colours, you can also get it in a day bed for €5,850.
