ShoparoundA handsome collection of Dutch colonial-style furniture with an easy fusion of contemporary and classic will be the flagship range at Global Village's new Kimmage showroom.

The new 466sq m (5,000sq ft) showroom, which will be open by appointment only at the end of the month, is located in the KCR Industrial Estate in Kimmage.

The showroom will give the furniture store a presence closer to town: it already operates from 186sq m (2,000sq ft) showrooms in both Powerscourt and Blackrock.

People are veering away from the stark contemporary fashion and are looking for something in between the classic and contemporary, according to Martin Lenehan from Global Village.

The store's new Dutch Eichholtz range, featuring good solid oak furniture with lots of nickel to add a contemporary feel, is going down well with customers, he says.

We like the eye-catching nickel criss-cross leg coffee table, which is priced at €1,195. A matching side table is priced at €575.

A seriously impressive oak cabinet with sliding glass doors is priced at around €4,000.

The lighting range includes the nautical-inspired shipper and Atlantic floor lamps, the movie set floor lamp, as well as more traditional chandlers and table lamps.

We like the gorgeous range of hurricane lamps: price €95. Occasional furniture in the range starts at €300 and goes up to €1,500. Cabinets are priced between €1,000 and €5,000.

Global Village stocks a range of chic black and white 1930s-inspired prints depicting Hollywood stars, motor cars and yacht racing to complete the look. Prices are between €120 and €350.

The new range of furniture will also be on view at the Interior Design Show 2006 which runs at the Main Hall and Serpentine Hall in the RDS this weekend. Doors open at 11am on Friday and it runs until 6pm on Sunday.

Following on from the enormous success of the first show last year, organisers have increased the number of exhibitors to 100 and some 20,000 people are expected to attend.
