Gothic meets Moroccan style in Dalkey

THE Gothic-style kitchen in Little Wing in Dalkey is 12 years old and shows that quality workmanship lasts

THE Gothic-style kitchen in Little Wing in Dalkey is 12 years old and shows that quality workmanship lasts. The hand-painted, duck egg blue units have brass handles and iroko teak countertops that have been finished with yachting varnish to create a highly lacquered and durable look. This solid wood kitchen was designed and fitted by Roland Henderson Design and Joinery (086 264 2743) near Thomastown, Co Kilkenny. Expect to pay between €15,000 and €20,000 for something similar.

The extractor hood is inspired by work created by Pierce Tynan Design (01 6793313). The Moroccan-style tadlekt-effect hood uses a wood base and is roughly concreted over. The finish adds an organic mood to the room. Expect to pay about €700 for something similar, says Roland Henderson. The painted Moroccan tiles on the Aga splashback come from Fired Earth (01 6636160) and add a wonderful pop of colour. Try their Tabriz range which includes a tile called Evliya that makes use of warm terracotta reds and intense Majorelle blue. These come in two sizes and are reduced in their sale, which starts Saturday. The sale prices are: €357.36 per sq m for 10x10 tiles and €273 per sq m for 15x15. The classic black and white chessboard tiles can be ordered through Tile Style (01 8555200) and add further contrast to the space. Expect to pay €120-€130 per sq m.
