Pedestrian footfall on Grafton Street may have been affected by the foot and mouth restrictions imposed on St Stephen's Green, according to a quarterly pedestrian analysis by Insignia Richard Ellis Gunne. While footfall on Grafton Street remained unchanged compared to the same quarter last year, Henry Street, recorded an increase of 21 per cent. This may, however, be partially explained by the level of redevelopment activity in the area. The Henry Street increase occurred despite the fact that pedestrian activity is traditionally relatively low following the Christmas and New Year sales rush. The static level of activity on Grafton Street is partially accounted for by a drop in the numbers of strollers en route to St Stephen's Green, says the agency. Henry Street gets an average of 18,000 pedestrians per hour at peak shopping time on Saturdays compared to 16,000 per hour on Grafton Street.
