Monkstown: €4.5mGlandore House, a dramatic Gothic house in the middle of a housing estate in Monkstown, Co Dublin carries an AMV of €4.5 million prior to auction through Douglas Newman Good on June 15th.

Designed by Deane & Woodward in 1858, the 790sq m (8,500sq ft) house is behind St John's Church, off Lower Mounttown Road. Its 0.3-acre garden has further scope for development, according to the agent. Run as a guesthouse in recent years, the cut-stone building has 18 en suite bedrooms and many of its original features are intact.

The best rooms are on the ground floor and include a hall, drawingroom, sittingroom and diningroom - all of grand proportions and all showing evidence of the carved Gothic inspired architraves and door surrounds which are a feature of other Deane & Woodward buildings in Dublin (in particular, the Museum building in Trinity College and the Kildare St Club).

The hall has original geometric-shaped tiles in rich earth colours and banisters with cut-out trefoil patterns under a curved rail. Two of these rooms have the original carved fireplaces, both simple but grand with foliate designs to the columns. A corridor leads to the kitchen and an enclosed courtyard which has been developed with more bedrooms.
