After 10 years in their Rathmines home, Greencore chief executive Patrick Coveney and his family are moving on. During their time at 6 Leinster Square, the family has grown – they now have four children – and their house is a bright, spacious home with six bedrooms over three levels.
It will appeal to a similarly large family looking for a house close to the city centre that is smart looking, stylishly decorated and ready to walk into. The 283sq m (3,049sq ft) Victorian house is for sale through Sherry FitzGerald for €1.3 million.
When they bought in 2004 they commissioned De Blacam and Meagher architects to design a two-storey extension at the rear. They also changed the internal layout by moving the large eat-in kitchen up to hall level. So now there is a reception room on either side of the double fronted house but on the right side the large living room opens directly into the new extension with the kitchen and dining area. The pitched roof over the kitchen is mostly glazed and there are windows to the side and back so it’s a bright airy space. At the back of the extension is a staircase leading down to a family room opening out to the patio garden. In 2011 this space was extended again to make room for a home gym, although it would also make a great home office. There are three bedrooms down at garden level, two doubles and a single, as well as a small kitchen and bathroom.

There are three more bedrooms and a small family bathroom at the top of the house, the main bedroom runs from front to back and includes a cleverly designed en suite area incorporating a shower and a separate toilet.
Leinster Square isn’t really a square – and this terrace backs on to Rathmines Road and so it doesn’t have much of a back garden, something that might prove a sticking point with buyers looking for a garden in keeping with the size of the house. Out front there is off-street parking for several cars, a big plus in this area.
