Having a fling in northern climes

Both the auctioneers and the house builders are heading north this year for their annual jamborees

Both the auctioneers and the house builders are heading north this year for their annual jamborees. The IAVI is inviting its members to Derry next month and already the gig is overbooked, so much so that delegates will now be spread between three hotels. Meanwhile, the more adventurous IHBA house-builders have chartered several planes to take its delegates to Edinburgh for a four-day event in May. It will be interesting to see how many of the industry's big names turn up, because they have been scarce on the ground in recent years. The boom market has meant that they are just too busy building and selling houses to take time off for their annual conference. Still, this year they'll have an added incentive to get together - in between festivities that is - to plan their strategy over the Government's ruling that 20 per cent of all developments should be allocated as social housing.
