Howth: €5.25mThis seven-bedroom 1920s house uses elements of the Arts and Craft style popular at that time, writes Eivlín Roden
A 1920s' dormer bungalow with magnificent sea views on 2.78 acres is high up on Howth Hill near the golf club.
Carrick, which was built in 1921, has an AMV of €5.25 million prior to auction through Colliers Jackson-Stops on June 7th.
Measuring 390sq m (4,200sq ft), with seven bedrooms, it has suited a large family, although new owners may wish to open up some of the rooms.
It has many Arts and Crafts features such as leaded windows, dark beams and doors, and oak parquet flooring. There is a sweeping red tiled roof and double front doors.
The best rooms are on the ground floor. Duel-aspect drawing and diningrooms on either side of the hall each have leaded windows facing south towards the sea. A verandah to one side has been glazed but is otherwise unchanged.
Opening off the short arm of the T-shaped hall is another sittingroom, main bedroom with square bay and a large unfinished en suite.
All these rooms are close to their original 1920s' style (with the exception of a late Georgian fireplace in the sittingroom).
The kitchen has been opened up to link with a family den. It has a large leaded window and dark fitted units. Behind the kitchen a later extension includes a self contained apartment.
There are five bedrooms of varying sizes, one en suite, and a further three bathrooms.
Outside, there are several levels of garden with wide lawns surrounded by rhododendrons, furze and azaleas. There are two garages.
