One of Dublin's oldest bars, Conways, opposite the Rotunda Hospital on the corner of Parnell Street and Moore Lane, is to be auctioned on May 20th. Joint agents John Younge and Edward J Bohan are quoting a guideline price or £1.75 million for the bar, which celebrated its 250th anniversary in 1995. The bar has been owned since 1988 by Lorcan Lynch, a former president of the Licensed Vintners Association. The premises retains many of its original features.
A clock installed by Anderson of Dublin, in 1888, is still in perfect working order. The pub was used to film some of the scenes from The Snapper, based on the Roddy Doyle book. The sale includes an adjacent newsagents, which has three two-bedroom flats overhead.
