Estate agent Des Lalor has come up with an ingenious way to draw attention to a property on his books: 2 Vico Terrace on Vico Road in Dalkey, Co Dublin. He has persuaded the vendor, Alan Repko, who has lived there for 30 years, to star in a promotional video of his own house.
Property videos that give a walk-through of a house are hardly a new concept but publicity-shy vendors tend to stay well out of shot.
Documentary-maker Annette Kinne of Andec Communications films Repko explaining how he’s “had his time” in the house and wants to travel. He describes life there (the positive aspects that is), talks viewers through each room and reminds them how they would be practically living on the sea and how great nearby Dalkey village is.
Phil Thompson of Des Lalor auctioneers says they’ve had “tremendous interest”, from around the world.
Whether it will catch on remains to be seen. Less charismatic vendors could scupper the sale of their home, and some vendors might prefer a grainy hand-held camera than a broadcast quality one that will pick up every dingy and dated corner. The cost at €1,000-€2,000 would also be a factor. The house will be on view from 12-3pm on Saturday (you are asked to park on Sorrento Road).
