The IAVI could be heading for trouble in its ranks over the case of Kildare auctioneer Colm McEvoy who was recently hauled into the High Court over the sale of a Kildare farm owned by an elderly lady, that was undervalued before being sold to a company in which McEvoy had an interest.

The case couldn't have come at a worse time for the IAVI, falling in the same week as its annual conference.

Clearly they couldn't ignore all the publicity about the case, and delegates were told that the organisation was looking into it.

This has fallen well short of expectations, and there are mutterings that a group of members may be planning to resign in protest at the undue delay in taking disciplinary action.

The issue clearly won't go away, even if president Robert Ganly is reluctant to deal with it before his term ends in April.

In that case, the buck will be firmly passed to Edward Carey, who happens to trade along the Meath/Kildare border, but has an impeccable reputation with lady landowners.
