Bargain Hunter: Luxury baths, heritage tiles and inspiring interiors

The travel company Mr and Mrs Smith appreciates individuality as much as it does fine food and attentive service. Its annual Smith Hotel Awards reflect the range of establishments they offer.

The Battery San Francisco, is the winner of best newcomer in the Smith Hotel Awards. It is owned by the founders of social networking site Bebo, Michael and Xochi Rich, who hired decorator and event planner Ken Fulk, and appointed him creative director at the private club, which has rooms, restaurant, spa and four bars, to add his sense of drama.
