And in another bridge project, in Paris - by husband and wife team architects Fitzpatrick Mays - Irish company Wink, run by Rocky Wall, has provided the lighting.

The pedestrian bridge in Paris, at the Passerelle des Grands Moulins, took about three years to complete and lighting was integral to the project.

Full colour spectrum LED lighting is set into the handrails and changes with the temperature: turning blue in warm weather and red on cold days.

If it detects snow it turns a deep vermillion. It also has special colours for certain dates, such as Bastille Day and, ahem, the designers' birthdays.
