Shoparound: Enchanted gardens and botanically-inspired brilliance are where it's at, if the new Missoni home range is anything to go by. Synonymous with big colour and even bigger design, Missoni has spearheaded the reintroduction of colour back into the house, according to Lisa Duffin of Bottom Drawer.
Prints are what Missoni is known for and its 2006 collection doesn't disappoint. Huge dahlias and kaleidoscopic flowers dominate the new collection and are complemented by rainbow stripes and circular motifs, all in jungle-inspired bold colours.
Missoni manages to introduce lots of colour but still look urban cool, says Duffin. "Usually florals are very feminine but Missoni's floral patterns are sharp and chic and will suit even a bachelor pad or super slick contemporary apartment."
People are tired of the cream and taupe palette, particularly people living in new apartments, Duffin believes.
You can still have a neutral background but need an injection of strong colour, she says.
Prices for oversized dahlia print cushions start at €95. Wool throws cost €395.
Seriously groovy pink or orange cushions with textured faux petal effect are priced at around €155. For the colour shy, the range also has a good collection of jazzy black and white print and stripe cushions.
Multi-coloured tufted wool rugs in orange, yellow and purples are not cheap with a price tag of €4,500 for a two-metre diameter circular rug, but they really do guarantee some serious colour therapy. Beautiful bathrobes that would put Joseph and his technicolour dreamcoat to shame cost around €185.
For the finishing touches, get a Missoni Cake Candle. In stripy brown, beige and black or purple, yellow and orange it is a 10" high by 10" wide candle with five wicks. Price €250.
Watch out for a storewide fashion, fragrance and homeware Missoni event starting on March 24th at Brown Thomas.
