A new legal reference guide to keep chartered surveyors abreast of legal developments and law reform in Ireland - the bi-annual Property Law Review - was launched last Thursday. It is a joint initiative between the Society of Chartered Surveyors and A & L Goodbody Solicitors and contains details of case law relevant to the property industry.

John Costello, president of the Society of Chartered Surveyors, says the publication will "develop into a very fine resource of contemporary case law and commentary for our members. This initiative displays the complementary resources and professional skills of both organisations."

Professor John Wylie, consultant to A & L Goodbody Solicitors, is general editor of Property Law Review. The first edition covers contracts for sale, rent review and valuations with cases detailed for each.

It also includes case studies for forfeiture, including repossessed mortgaged premises, unauthorised sub-lettings and compliance with conditions. Other cases cover repairs, alienation, service charges, shopping centres and judicial review.

Tom O'Connor, a partner at A & L Goodbody Solicitors, says: "An appreciation of legal developments and issues can sometimes form part of the backdrop to the work of a surveyor. We are delighted to see this initiative brought to fruition and to have the opportunity of supporting the society and its work."
