Relocating from Dun Laoghaire to Clonskeagh brought logistical worries for Compaq staff that had moved close to DART stations for convenience of transport. The nearest DART station is a 20-minute walk, so the company provides a shuttle to and from Sydney Parade DART station in the morning and evening.

Although Government policy seeks to encourage public transport use, the location of industrial estates and business parks - many are in out-of-the-way areas - causes problems for employees without private transport.

Sandyford Industrial Estate, in south Co Dublin, is a good example. Major multi-nationals have high volumes of staff located there, including Microsoft with 1,800 employees. The No.5 bus operates to the estate, but there are only three services between 7 a.m and 10 a.m. The Luas is planned to run to the estate.

Citywest, off the Naas Road in west Dublin, is better served by an existing public transport network. East Point, in Fairview, has benefited from the opening of a DART station at Clontarf, leaving workers with a 10-minute walk to the complex. Computer giant Intel lobbied to have a train station adjacent to its campus in Leixlip.
