While mass property auctions have become a regular fixture in the capital (we still remember the fever-pitch excitement around the first Allsop auction) they haven’t featured hugely on the horizon outside Dublin.
O’Donnellan & Joyce put paid to this last Friday when the Galway auctioneers staged the west’s equivalent, raising nearly €4 million.
A total of 29 properties in Galway, Roscommon, Mayo and other parts of the west went to auction with 27 properties sold. The dramatic fall in country property prices was reflected in the AMVs, but the bulk of properties sold above their guides, including a four-bed semi at Carbry Road, Newcastle, which went for €320,000 – double its €160,000 guide. A property in Ballydangan, Athlone with an AMV of €60,000 sold for €172,000. At the lower end, three unfinished houses on two acres in Dunmore, Co Galway, sold for €52,000.
Colm O’Donnellan says they are looking for properties throughout the west for its next auction on July 12th.
