WITH SO little action for exuberant auctioneers on these shores of late, when the opportunity arose for Laurence McCabe to head stateside with his gavel, he jumped at the opportunity. McCabe of Knight Frank Ireland was called on to conduct the recent charity auction at the Rugby Legends 2012 Captain’s Knock Gala Evening in New York.

On the night, McCabe knocked down luxury goods, “money can’t buy” experiences and sporting memorabilia until a record sum of €110,000 was raised from the assembled bidders.

The ex-pat alikadoo event was replete with former international rugby stars, including Paul Wallace of Ireland, Scott Gibbs of Wales, Michael Lynagh of Australia, Jason Leonard of England and World Cup winner Steve Thompson, also of England. Ex-England international Jeremy Guscott of England also hosted the event.
