McKillen jnr sets sights on Morehampton Lane

Two companies involving Paddy McKillen jnr (32), Oakmount and Parmenion, have lodged a planning application for Dublin’s latest high-end residential development. Following a successful development of three mews houses on Percy Lane and with another highly anticipated residential and commercial scheme at Percy Place nearing completion, the developer is hoping to replicate his success on nearby Morehampton Lane, just off Herbert Park in Donnybrook.

The substantial site was formed from the original rear gardens of numerous Victorian homes on Morehampton Road and has been in an overgrown state for some time. McKillen’s companies are seeking permission to demolish the existing shed, a protected structure, in order to construct four modern mews houses in its place.

Each three-storey mews house will feature three bedrooms and accommodate two cars. This design is consistent with a development that has recently been granted planning permission on an adjoining site owned by ex-banker Gillian Bowler. The former Irish Life and Permanent boss obtained planning permission for four similar mews houses following a protracted planning process with vehement opposition from neighbours. It is likely that this new scheme will be met with similar objections.

ODOS Architects, who are known for their cutting edge ultramodern designs, were engaged for Oakmount’s other Dublin 4 developments and are also responsible for Oakmount’s new Morehampton Lane homes. The three mews houses on Percy Lane attracted high asking prices of up to €7,443/sqm and have all sold in spite of the rather sluggish million-plus euro market.
