Two top-class housing sites are to be sold shortly in Naas, Co Kildare. The Department of Defence is likely to secure in the region of £6 million for part of the old Devoy Barracks, a former army apprentice school, on Newbridge Road. Naas Urban Council is understood to be taking over part of the site, about 8 acres, in return for rezoning the area. The 14 acres about to go for sale include a number of buildings which will probably be demolished. The site is likely to accommodate about 150 apartments and houses following its rezoning. A selling agent has not yet been appointed.
Also recently rezoned for housing was a six-acre site beside Naas Racecourse which has now come on the market through Newbridge agents Brophy Farrell. The site, which is expected to make over £1.5 million can accommodate six to eight homes per acre or an apartment development with higher density. It adjoins The Gallops, a high-quality housing development which was completed last year. The site has excellent views over the racecourse and the Wicklow mountains in the distance.
