It’s a case of out with the old at Ashford Castle which was purchased last May by Red Carnation Hotels for €20 million and has just completed phase one of its refurbishment.

The hotel is auctioning off over 1,000 lots on July 23rd of quality curtains, standard lamps, occasional chairs, paintings, prints, carpets and a large consignment of stainless steel from the castle’s kitchen.

Of particular interest is a pair of early 19th century walnut side tables that have graced the castle since it was owned by the Guinness family.

Although no four poster beds are offer, one of the beds for sale comes from the room once occupied by Ronald Regan, but as to which bed it is in either of the two large warehouses is anyone’s guess. Items will be sold without reserve.
