California style in Kildare

Four-bed home with large garden and basement for €625,000 is near village of Clane

This bungalow in Ballinagappa, about 1½ kilometres outside the village of Clane, Co Kildare is an exercise in mid-century American styling.

It features a brick house with a smart Clonaslee stone chimney and feels like it should feature in some sitcom from the golden age of television with the look and feel of That '70s Show.

Built in 1975, most of the house is situated on the ground floor with a familyroom and guest toilet on the lower level or basement where the teens from this house and neighbouring homes could congregate in peace.

Retro fans will love its California styling, although it is likely that the next owner will remove some of the tiled floors in favour of wood, paint the redbrick walls and remove the setpiece kitchen with its tiled countertops.

Conservatory

The house was extended in 1985, and at that time an early Norman Pratt conservatory was installed which opens out to the south-facing lawn was added.

Measuring 201sq m (2,164sq ft) the property is asking €625,000 through agents Sherry FitzGerald Reilly. The house, which also includes a double garage internal to the main house, is surrounded by 0.9 of an acre of mature gardens that give the house a real sense of privacy. There is also a hard-surface tennis court and plenty of parking.

Clane is a five-minute drive from the Arrow rail commuter service to Dublin and there is a regular bus service to the capital.
