It is 23 years since Castlethorn built Riverwood, a mature estate located about a 20-minute walk from Coolmine station on the Maynooth to Dublin city Docklands commuter line.

Castlethorn had already made a name with such suburban developments as Carysfort Park and Avoca Park in Blackrock and Holmwood in Cabinteely when it broke ground at Riverwood in Woodbrook in the heart of the area’s Liffey Valley.

Thousands of homes have been constructed in this part of Dublin 15 since the late 1990s but the leafy country roads and rolling green spaces around the area now have special amenity status, which means that the leafy locale, on the edge of the city, can continue to be enjoyed by homeowners for generations to come.

On an infill site within Riverwood the firm is now constructing Riverwood Square, a boutique scheme of just 40 homes that has both secondary and primary schools at its entrance.

This weekend the boutique development launches the first 26 of 40 good-sized three- and four-bed homes. The buff-brick fronted properties feature uPVC double glazed windows by Munster Joinery and electrically operated heat recovery systems.

House styles

In total there are seven different styles of house on offer. Set on wide plots the houses have ceiling heights of 2.7m downstairs and 2.4m upstairs, with roomy entrance halls and, in most, a living room set to the front interconnects through to the kitchen at the rear.

The units feature smart kitchens by Mountlodge Furniture that include Carrera-look quartz countertops and splashbacks; kitchen appliances by Bosch; a sleek Faber extractor; and the white goods in the separate utility room will be included in the package to buyers who exchange contracts within 28 days.

One house style has an added room to the rear of the kitchen, an ideal space maybe for growing children and teens. The same unit will also appeal to lovers of light with dual aspects in both the kitchen and the living room .

The showhomes have been designed by Joanne Reilly of Total Fitout and the gardens laid out by Maryland Landscaping.

The gardens in the three beds range in size from 60 to 70sq m while the four beds average a back garden of about 73sq m, according to Helena Hayes, Castlethorn sales and marketing manager.

The three-bed houses are sizeable starting with mid- and end-terrace units measuring 106sq m/1140 sq ft. Prices for the three-beds start from €420,000 through Leahy Residential.

The four-bed end-of-terrace and semi-detached units measure 139sq m/ 1,496sq ft and start from €520,000.
