It’s very peaceful at Daytona. Unlike its racetrack namesake, this four-bedroomed 1930s semi-detached house is steeped in calm.
The owners, who have lived here for 37 years, say it’s that sense of seclusion that initially attracted them. “We were looking for somewhere to bring up our children, somewhere they could grow up independent and safe.”
The found exactly what they were looking for on Crosthwaite Park South, kissed goodbye to the snarled up traffic of the old school run, and found they weren’t using the car for days at a time, so good are the local amenities and public transport connections.

Sliding glass doors
When they moved in, they opened up the back of the kitchen with sliding glass doors, so now you can take your morning coffee in summer with an open view across the large and mature back garden or, later in the evening, move a little further along for your sundowners in the conservatory, which catches the last rays.
There’s also a balcony on the first floor, though it’s currently so arranged that you climb through a window to reach it.
The owners got planning permission (now lapsed) to extend over what had been the garage – it’s now a study – to create extra bedroom and bathroom space, plus make an access to get the most out of the balcony with its garden views.
This is something new owners will probably want to pick up again, as none of the four bedrooms are en-suite, and more space would provide a lot of options here.
Room to extend
There’s also room to extend to the rear, to get even more space, although there’s plenty of accommodation downstairs already, with a large living room, leading through to the conservatory on the left of the entrance hall, and a dining room opening up to the kitchen to the right. Off this is a utility room, downstairs bathroom and a study/family room.
There’s also the original pantry, giving a flavour of what the house would have been like when first built. It’s all very nice and liveable, cosy and relaxing, but I suspect new owners will make changes in keeping with today’s design trends.
On the market with Savills with a guide of €1.1 million, and at 151sq m (1,630sq ft), Daytona is a little smaller than the detached San Fionnbarra just down the road, which sold in June for €1.2 million.
