"My wife would give her left arm to live in the Hamptons," says the owner of Number 5 St Gabriel's as he explains the American inspiration for their southeast-facing deck and much of the interior of the house. St Gabriel's is a five-bedroom, semi-detached house of 179sq m (1,923sq ft) with an asking price of €720,000 through agents SherryFitzGerald.
The couple bought the three-storey house in 1999. It was phase two of the mixed development. Seven years ago they opened up the rooms, knitting the diningroom into the kitchen to create a large space that extends the width of the house and out to the conservatory that has bespoke blinds to filter out the sun.
The house has an easy American aesthetic throughout. Each room interconnects from the limed oak of the sittingroom in the front to the black slate tiled kitchen to the rear. There are plantation shutters on all the front windows.

On the first floor there are four bedrooms, two singles and the master, which has a shower en suite and a walk-in wardrobe. The fourth bedroom is used as a study.
On the second floor is the fifth bedroom. This generous space has a dormer window and a shower en suite.
When refurbishing the owners decided to replace the small lawn with a deck that sits flush with the floor drawing the eye outside. The decking has been installed smooth side up so that it better resembles the weatherworn boards so distinctive of the Hamptons. A large rattan sofa, matching coffee table and mirror completes the outdoor room picture.
The garden has wicker fencing, specimen trees in planters and a row of trees to the rear to give privacy. At night the space is lit by “about nine million lanterns”, says the owner.
